Prof Fergal Moloney
MD, FRCPI, FACD
Professor Fergal Moloney has worked for the past ten years as a Consultant Dermatologist in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin Ireland.
He studied in NUI Galway and completed his post graduate training in Galway and Dublin before spending five years from 2006-2011 in Sydney as a Staff specialist in the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, the Sydney Melanoma Diagnostic Centre and the University of Sydney.
Fergal is Clinical Professor in University College, Dublin, his research interests include diagnostic techniques and non-surgical approaches to the treatment and prevention of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. He founded with colleagues from the National Cancer Registry Ireland and Renal, Liver and Lung transplant centres the Irish Transplant Cancer Group which has published extensively in this field. He has published over fifty peer-reviewed articles and three book chapters in the field of skin cancer.
Fergal sits on the NCCP National Advisory Board for Skin Cancer in Ireland, and has acted as Chairman of the Mater Melanoma Group in Dublin for the past ten years while leading a busy clinical service in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin. He is the former President of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland, Section of Dermatology and has chaired the Scientific Committee of the Irish Association of Dermatologists.
Fergal has worked in Malawi with Standing Voice a charitable organisation raising awareness around prevention of skin cancer among people with albinism. He is a keen runner, swimmer and cyclist and a proud Australian as are his wife Jane and their two children Grace and Shane.
Prof Fergal Moloney will start consulting at Melanoma Dermatology in November 2021.
